U xơ tuyến tiền liệt là một loại u lành tính thường xuất hiện ở nam giới trong độ tuổi trung niên và cao niên, khiến cho người bệnh gặp khó khăn khi đi tiểu tiện và ảnh hưởng nhiều đến cuộc sống sinh hoạt hàng ngày. Không những thế u xơ tuyến tiền liệt nếu không được điều trị kịp thời có thể gây ra một số biến chứng làm tắc đường tiết niệu.
Tuyến tiền liệt là một tuyến sinh dục phụ chỉ có ở nam giới, nó nằm ngay dưới bàng quang và bao quanh niệu đạo.
U xơ tuyến tiền liệt hay còn gọi là phì đại lành tính tuyến tiền liệt là một bệnh thường gặp ở nam giới lớn tuổi. Tuổi càng cao thì nguy cơ mắc phì đại lành tính tuyến tiền liệt càng tăng. Khi mới sinh ra, tuyến tiền liệt của các bé trai có kích thước rất nhỏ chỉ như hạt đậu, đến tuổi dậy thì tuyến tiền liệt mới bắt đầu phát triển và ổn định hơn khi nam giới ở độ tuổi từ 20 – 25.
Tuy nhiên, khi nam giới ở độ tuổi 40, lúc này tuyến tiền liệt bắt đầu phát triển bất thường gây phì đại tuyến tiền liệt. Theo ước tính, ở Việt Nam có khoảng 63,8 % nam giới ở độ tuổi 50 mắc u xơ tuyến tiền liệt, tỷ lệ này ngày càng tăng cao theo độ tuổi và khi bước sang tuổi 80 thì gần như nam giới nào cũng mắc phải bệnh lý này.
U xơ tuyến tiền liệt có nguy hiểm không?
Rất nhiều người lầm tưởng những triệu chứng kể trên là hiện tượng thường thấy của tuổi già nên họ âm thầm chịu đựng, không đi khám, chính quan niệm này khiến cho bệnh ngày càng nặng hơn, nếu bệnh kéo dài sẽ gây ra các biến chứng nguy hiểm như:
- Bí tiểu hoàn toàn: Người bệnh thường bị đau quặn dữ dội vùng bụng dưới do bí tiểu gây ra. Trong trường hợp này cần phải đưa người bệnh đến ngay bệnh viện để cấp cứu.
- Nhiễm trùng đường tiết niệu: Nước tiểu thường không được thải ra hết, tạo điều kiện cho vi khuẩn xâm nhập và phát triển gây ra nhiễm trùng. Nhiều trường hợp nam giới phải tiến hành cắt bỏ tuyến tiền liệt để ngăn ngừa nhiễm khuẩn toàn bộ đường tiết niệu.
- Gây tổn thương bàng quang: U xơ tuyến tiền liệt thường dẫn đến hình thành sỏi bàng quang, gây tắc nghẽn đường tiểu và làm tăng khả năng nhiễm trùng.
- Gây suy thận: Nhiễm khuẩn đường tiết niệu có thể lan xuống gây tổn thương đến thận, dẫn đến suy thận. Đây là biến chứng nguy hiểm nhất, gây ảnh hưởng đến sức khỏe của người bệnh, thậm chí có thể dẫn đến tử vong.
Nguyên nhân chính gây ra u xơ tuyến tiền liệt?
- Do tuổi tác: Tuổi đời càng cao thì tuyến tiền liệt càng phát triển do nam giới tuổi càng cao thì lượng hormone nam giới testosterol càng suy giảm, dẫn đến khả năng miễn dịch kém và ham muốn tình dục cũng suy giảm theo.
- Do chế độ sinh hoạt: Bệnh u xơ tuyến tiền liệt thường xuất hiện ở những người thường xuyên phải chịu căng thẳng, áp lực, stress kéo dài, không cung cấp đủ nước cho cơ thể, sống trong môi trường ô nhiễm, chế độ ăn thiếu dinh dưỡng. Ngoài ra, việc lạm dụng bia rượu, thuốc lá, mỡ động vật và các chất kích thích khác cũng có thể gây nên bệnh u xơ tuyến tiền liệt.
Tuy không phải bệnh nguy hiểm và đe dọa đến tính mạng của người mắc bệnh, nhưng nếu để lâu sẽ gây ra rất nhiều phiền toán, khó chịu cho người bệnh.
